Obituary for Ginger Virginia Chambers (Prather)

Mabel Virginia (Ginger) Prather Chambers went to be with the Lord on Wednesday December 11, 2019 at the age of 81.

She was born to the late Earl and Virginia Prather on February 15, 1938 in Martinsburg, WV, from an early age she was raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Hannah and John Douglas Beall.

She led her life as a Proverbs 31 woman. She was a hard worker and had a fierce love for her family, community and God. In her youth she worked on her family farm and helped her aunt care for her cousin. She then worked as an Administrative Aide in Washington, D.C. retiring in 1996 after 38 years. During her career at the United States Senate she worked under Senator Byrd, Senator Kennedy, Senator Humphreys of Minnesota and Senator Sasser of Tennessee. When not at work she and her family tended to the family farm. She was a strong woman and was never idle. After her retirement from the government she and her husband Wayne opened the Craft Gallery Treasures shop in Martinsburg where you could find her six days a week. She did not believe in quitting and never met a stranger. These life values were instilled in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, having her grandchildren work with her learning work ethics and responsibility and at the end of the day, was always happy to get home and spend time with her dogs.

Ginger was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, the love of her life, Wayne McSherry Chambers, her brother James (Jim) Prather, daughter-in-law Susan (Sue) Rankin Chambers and great-great grandson Luke Parker.

She is survived by three sons: Dr. Terry Wayne Chambers (Susan), John Douglas (Doug) Chambers (Pam), Theodore Lee Chambers, USN Ret.; two daughters: Tammy Ann Chambers Kirby (Curtis) and Tina Louise Chambers Farris; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-grandson; one brother, Lewis Prather; and a sister, Anges Prather.
