Obituary for Helen Pearl Bivens (Dick)

Helen Pearl (Dick) Bivens, wife of Joseph “Jack” Bivens and our mom, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, 30 October, 3 days before her 94th birthday. Born 2 November 1925, Mom was the youngest of eight children born to parents, Peter Dick and Maggie Clark. She is preceded in death by our father and siblings, Roy and Calvin Dick, Naomi Shriver, Letha O’Rourke, Martha Price and an infant brother and sister.
Mom leaves behind eight children, seven daughters and one son: Vickie Hettenhouser husband Ron, Jacksonville, Florida; Shirley Moler husband Spencer, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; Ginny Sidow husband Robert, Frederick, Maryland; Kathy Gochenour husband Robert, Martinsburg; Connie Thacker husband Gary, Forest, Virginia; Carole Wenzel husband Tommy, South Euclid, Ohio; Cheryl Belotte husband Tim Martinsburg; Scott Bivens wife Lisa Martinsburg; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren along with a number of loving nieces and nephews. Mom had a favorite saying, “That as the family circle grew, so did her heart grow”. Each new family addition was considered a blessing to her from God.
Mom was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church where an open Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, 9 November at 11:00 a.m. Mom’s final resting place will be with our dad at Saint Leo’s Columbarium. Service will be private.

“To our dear mom,
You have been a special blessing.
Your hands, always helping;
Your arms always open;
Your face, full of smiles;
Your ears, ready to listen;
Your love, and love to have fun, never ending;
Your heart, so big, made of gold.
You are now with dad and in God’s loving care. Thank you for filling our hearts with so much love and forever cherished memories. You will be missed. Until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, Mom’s wishes were that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 225 South Queen Street, Martinsburg 2540l; Panhandle Home Health, 208 Old Mill Road, Martinsburg, 25401 and Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville 24530.

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to our friends, Mrs. Glenna Walters and Mrs. Susie Greer, for the love and care they provided to our mom over the many recent months.
