Obituary for George "Buddy" Poisal, III

George Jacob Poisal III, an Aerospace Engineer, died this past Saturday, September 28, 2019, at this home in Martinsburg, he was 86.

Mr. Poisal was a Martinsburg native was born in December 1933 and attended Martinsburg High School. He then attended West Virginia University gaining a Bachelors’ Degree in Aerospace Engineering. He then pursued a life-long career in the aviation industry as a Structural and Systems Engineer with a focus on making aviation safer for both the military and civilian aviation. He designed portions of aircraft that included: The USAF F-105 thunder chief, The USAF A-10 Warthog, The Boeing 707, The Boeing 747, The USAF B-2 Bomber (which always held a special place in his heart), The USAF F-22 Raptor, and many more. It needs to be recognized that nothing he ever designed failed in flight. His passion for perfection served all those who flew or were carried by “his” aircraft well.

Mr. Poisal was also an enthusiast of the arts. As a child he had a scholarship to the Columbus Boy Choir School. As a young adult, he studied voice with M. Louise Taylor in Pittsburgh, PA and in New York City. He specialized in German opera, and sang with a company on Long Island, New York.

Mr Poisal returned home to Martinsburg earlier this year. He quietly and peacefully passed away in late September 2019. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, George J Poisal II and Dorothy K Poisal of Martinsburg, and his older sister Mary Anne Jackson, of Summit Point, VA. Mr. Poisal has two surviving sisters: Jane Downey of Martinsburg, and Dorothy Coy who resides in Colorado.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m.on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at St Joseph Roman Catholic Church at 225 S. Queen Street, Martinsburg WV.
