Obituary for Janet Faye Streets (Males)

Janet Faye Males Streets, 81, of Martinsburg, WV, went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2019.

Born March 2, 1938 in Shallmar Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Males.

On June 16, 1956 she married the love of her life James (Jim) Streets. The two would spend the next 63 years building an amazing life together. They frequently traveled visting their favorite locations in Hawaii and Disney World. Her life was all about loving not only her children but many others as well. To many she became known as “Nan”.

In her professional career, she was the owner and interior designer of Janet’s Custom Draperies. She was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church and was a woman who sought after the Lord in love and faith. She spent many hours in service to the church including serving on the Administrative Council, WSCS, and Sunday School Teacher. Her church family were a very important part of her life.

Janet was an active volunteer for many years with Shawnee Girl Scout Council and Berkeley County Schools. She believed that she had a patriotic duty to assist and work the voting polls. She worked in almost every election from the time she was 18 years old.

Along with her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Vickie Greenfield and husband, Roger of Martinsburg and Heather Tomlinson and husband, Christopher of Berkeley Springs, adopted son, William (Bill) Streets and wife, Alexa of Martinsburg, and chosen son, Phil Lakes, Portsmouth, VA; five grandchildren, Andrea Jenkins (Shad), Matthew Armel (Brittany), Alliee Hindmarsh, Mike Hindmarsh and Zach Streets; two great grandchildren, Collin Jenkins and Lukah Hindmarsh; two brothers, Albert Males (Virginia), of Jacksonville, FL and Arthur (Wayne) Males (Karen), of Saverna Park, MD; three sisters, June Owens, Eleanor Paull (Joe), of Morgantown, WV and Nita Fridley (Fritz), Glenburnie, MD; and sister in-laws, Betty Cox, Keyser, WV, and Florence Wright, Alliance Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son James (Jimmy) Streets, II; sister, Evelyn Wojack; and brother in-laws, Allen Owens and Robert Streets.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Marvin Chapel Methodist Church, 130 Gosling Marsh Road, Martinsburg, WV, 25404, with Pastor John E. Lewis officiating.

Interment will be at Gerrardstown Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Janet to Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church.

The family wish to express their appreciation to the healthcare team at Berkeley Medical Center, Dr. Jane Park, and Gary Harmison, EMS. The Intensive Care Nurses and Physicans were loving and supportive of not just Janet, but the entire family. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Bearers will be, Roger Greenfield, Christopher Tomlinson, Shad Jenkins, Matthew Armel, William Streets, and Tim Moore. Honorary bearer is Collin Jenkins.
