Obituary for Karen Colleen Rinehart (Shaffer)
Karen Shaffer Rinehart, 76, of Inwood passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the Hospice of the
Panhandle Inpatient Facility.
Born September 18, 1943 in Nampa Idaho, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Anita Boppart Shaffer.
Karen was a graduate of the Meridian High School Class of 1961.
Karen moved to Virginia and then Martinsburg, West Virginia in the early 1970’s. Karen was a loan officer at OneValley Bank (previously Citizens National Bank) in the 1970’s and mid 1980’s. She belonged to the Soroptimist International during this time. While employed by the bank she moved to Shepherdstown and raised beef cattle, an endeavor she particularly enjoyed. In 1987 she went to work for Patriot Auto Center becoming the manager for their Freedom Rental Car division. She retired in 2005.
In 1990 Karen married Kenneth Rinehart and moved to Bunker Hill, WV.
Karen is was baptized in and attended Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church in Bunker Hill.
She is survived by eight brothers and sisters. They are Bruce Shaffer of Boise, ID, Richard Shaffer of Melba, ID, Sandra Schroeder of Kenai , AK, Dennis Shaffer of Kila, MT, Donald Shaffer of Boise, ID, Lee Shaffer of Palm Coast, FL, Debra Stephens of Kenai, AK and Ronald Shaffer of Meridian ID. She is also survived by six stepchildren. They are Judy Stewart of Hedgesville, WV, Deborah Ezzo of Frederick, MD, Steve Rinehart of Martinsburg, WV, Janet Rinehart of Harrisonburg, VA, Nancy Gee of Weston, WV and Mike Rinehart of Weston , WV.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Rinehart. She was also preceded in death by two infant
sisters, Patsy Shaffer and Valayne Shaffer and an older sister, Avis Brown of Boise, ID.
Graveside service will be held on 10/03/2019 at 1:30 at Rest United Methodist Church in Clear Brook, VA Rev. Dawn Reidy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church, 631 Avanti Drive, Bunker Hill, WV 25413.
