Obituary for Thomas William "Bill" Stunkle

Thomas William “Bill” Stunkle, 93, of Ranson, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Hidden Springs Senior Living.
Born December 18, 1925 in Burkittsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Luther and Ida Lenora (McDade) Stunkle.

He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, was a veteran of the United States Army and served in WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and was a recipient of the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor (France’s highest distinction). Bill loved his family, cats, and enjoyed playing golf. He was employed as a meat inspector for the State of WV.

He is survived by two daughters, Alice M. Strickler and husband, David of Luray, Virginia and Barbara Watson, of Ranson; five grandchildren: Aaron Watson, of Ranson, Adam Watson, and wife Meghan, of Charles Town, Ethan Watson, and wife Katelyn, of Ranson, Ian Strickler, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, and Samantha Strickler, of Luray, Virginia; and three great-grandchildren: Gavin, Liv, and Maclaine Watson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann (Lackey) Stunkle and his son-in-law, Jay Watson.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the St. Thomas Lutheran Church with the Rev. Diane L. Day officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
