Obituary for Earl Mahlon "Pee Wee" Simpson

Earl M. “Pee Wee” Simpson, I, 90, of Martinsburg died peacefully at Berkeley Medical Center on September 2, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at his side. He is finally no longer in pain and flying high in the arms of angels.

Born in Martinsburg on July 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Clyde and Bessie Simpson. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard, Clifton, Rudolph, Marvin, Norbert, Heyward, and Harlan; his sisters, Berkeley Gay, Mary Lee Kidwell, and Dorothy Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy L. Simpson; sister, Janet Miller; his five children, Cindy (Randy) Strakal, Buddy (Tara) Simpson, Billy (Pat) Simpson, Carolyn (Clyde) Word, and Bobby Simpson (Dawn Kipps); ten grandchildren, Gene Lemen, Bobby P. Simpson, Krystle Dick, Rachel, Jeremiah, Marin, Hunter, Josh, Wesley, and Zachary Simpson; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the graduating class of 1947 at Martinsburg High School. He served in the US Navy as an aviation electrician from 1948-1950. He worked for the Journal for many years and a graphic arts teacher at James Rumsey until his retirement at age 62. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Robert White Lodge #67 and a 50 year plus member; the longest surviving Past Master. He was past president of the Osiris Eastern Panhandle Shriner’s Club. He loved taking children to Philadelphia. A Past Patron of Golden Rule Chapter No. 69, Order of the Eastern Star. He served as Worthy Patron thirteen times and was a Grand Representative to Florida. He loved traveling with his family and throughout the state with Cindy during her tenure as Worthy Grand Matron. The love for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family will be remembered.

The family would like to give thanks to Berkeley Medical Center Emergency Department and PCU Staff for their caring and compassionate care.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home with an Order of Eastern Star Service at 6:00 pm.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Lynn Wilson, Pastor Lisa Franzen, and Rev. John Brooks officiating at Calvary United Methodist Church, 220 W. Burke Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Military graveside rites and Masonic graveside rites will be conducted in Rosedale Cemetery.
