Obituary for Melvin Stephen Lewis

Melvin Stephen Lewis, 70, of Martinsburg, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019. Born on April 6, 1949, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Lee Roy Lewis and Hazel Blanche Frye Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Constance “Connie” Elaine Miller Lewis, one son, Tony Lewis and wife, Sarah; two grandchildren, Olivia Lewis and Ava Lewis, one brother, Tom Lewis and wife, Betty; one sister, Valinda Sue Shawyer and husband, Jeff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Shannon Lewis and one brother, Richard Lewis.

Melvin was a loving husband of 46 years. He was a father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He knew no stranger, cared for all, and had a robust appreciation for life. He was a man of faith, with a deep respect for God’s natural gifts. He relished his quiet time in the garden and loved the seasons. He filled those around him with laughter, and most importantly, you always knew you were loved.

Deb and I are out of town and won’t be able to attend the services but we pray for Gods arms of comfort to wrap around Connie, Tony, Sue and the entire family during this time. Been friends with Mel for 60+ years and can truthfully say he was one of the nicest people I’ve known. Connie and family, lean hard on your faith in God and he will guide you through these difficult times. Prayers will continue for your peace.

Remembering Melvin, Connie, Tony and Family as God surrounds you with his peace.
One meaning of "character", how you treat those who can do nothing for you. That is what I think of when I recall knowing Melvin and his family and many more fond memories.
