Obituary for Steven H. Rickrode Sr.

Steven H. Rickrode, SR (Rick), 78, of Martinsburg, WV, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, died at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. He was born in Mount Holly Springs, PA, on Wednesday, July 23, 1941, the son of the late Harry Alfred Rickrode and Ella Madeline (Diven) Rickrode. Steve was the husband of the late Jean Valeria Rickrode whom he married on April 26, 1969.

Steve’s survivors include his children, Shirley Trosper and her husband Harry of SC; Margaret Henderson and her husband Justin of TX; Lois Eichelberger of PA; Jeff Eichelberger and his wife Monica of NJ; and Steve Rickrode, JR, and his wife Marie of WV; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Steve is survived by his sisters Irene Hewitt of PA; Glora Sowers of PA; Nancy Shoenberger of PA; and Linda Kuhn of PA. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Jean; his daughter Bonnie Heck; his brothers Harry Rickrode, JR; Stanley Rickrode; and Wayne Rickrode; and his sister Gladys Thomas.

Steve received his diploma from Carlisle Area High School in PA. He is retired from Saint Joseph School in Martinsburg, WV, where he served part-time as groundskeeper and custodial staff in his later years. Through his life, Steve was employed in many professions as a fork lift operator, truck driver, roofing installer, machinist, among others. Steve was a long time member of First Church of God in Mechanicsburg, PA, where he attended and served as a teacher for its Monday Night Bible School program. Upon moving to the Martinsburg, WV, area, Steve became a member of the Blair’s Valley Church of God in Clear Spring, MD. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting/fishing with family and friends. Steve was a skilled marksmen and won various sport and block shooting competitions in the South Central PA area. He enjoyed gardening and being outside in nature; where he was most happy.

Steve will be interned beside his wife Jean at Saint John’s Cemetery 4605 East Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg, PA. All are welcome to join Steve’s family for a burial service at 1:00 PM pm Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the cemetery with his niece, Pastor Trisha Guise officiating. The family would like to extend an invitation to celebrate Steve's life at his home in Martinsburg, WV after the service.
