Obituary for Paul "Woody" Woodward
Paul “Woody” Woodward, 81 of Falling Waters, WV went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2019 surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his loving wife Marlene of 62 years. Woody was born on Saturday, April 22, 1938 in Schenectady NY to Clifford and Helen Woodward; he was predeceased in death by one sister, Virginia Stoffels, and is survived by one sister, Harriett Mark of Pleasant Valley, NY, and one brother Chris Woodward and his wife Linda, of St. Petersburg, Florida. He is also survived by their three children, Patricia Woodward of Berkeley Springs, Clifford Woodward and his wife Brenda, of Berkeley Springs, and Richard Woodward and his wife Kristin, of Beacon, NY; he is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Woody lived in New York state for most of his life where he worked at the General Electric Co. for 35 years in the Steam Turbine building. After retirement he and his wife moved to Berkeley Springs in 1997 where he volunteered as a Morgan County Deputy Sheriff Reserve for 10 years. He was also an avid Red Sox and Cleveland Browns fan, but he loved sports of any kind, especially NASCAR. Woody also enjoyed the outdoors especially chopping trees and cutting wood for the winter. He and his wife enjoyed travelling, with their last trip together being an Alaskan cruise.
Woody was also blessed to be called “Papa” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored. He would play for hours with them, pull them in wagons, take walks with them, listen to their stories, and read the same books to them over and over upon request. Their love for him shined brightly, and he will be truly and deeply missed by the littlest family members.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church, 2251 Williamsport Pike, Martinsburg WV on Saturday June 15, 2019 at 11:00 am. The family would also like to express thanks and gratitude to Hospice of the Panhandle for their work, but would especially like to acknowledge Steven Hopkins, RN, who was so extremely caring and compassionate not only to Woody in the last part of his life, but also to his family. For that reason, the family requests that memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Hospice of the Panhandle.
