Obituary for Russell Edward Griffin, III

Russell Edward Griffin, III, 39, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Potomac Valley Hospital.

Born April 20, 1979, in Manassas, VA, he is the son of Carol Hively Griffin and the late Russell E. Griffin, Jr.

In addition to his mother, he is survived one sister, Michele D. Griffin (fiance’ Michael Messick); nieces, Maricela Sanchez, Adriana Medrano, Isabella Sanchez-Griffin, Gabriela Sanchez-Griffin, Jayla Messick, Alessia Griffin, and Felicity Messick-Griffin; great-niece, Remmington Maye-Sanchez; aunts, Linda Hively-Dinges and husband, Loran of Luray, VA, Maria Smith and husband, Darryl of Herndon, VA, Diane Griffin-Reid of Martinsburg; uncles, Jerry Hively and wife, Mildred of Bealeton, VA, Bradley Hively and wife, Jan of Yadkinville, NC, Bruce Hively of Siler City, NC, Robert Griffin and wife, Cynthia of Sterling, Robert Lambert of Martinsburg; “special brothers” Lupe Sanchez and Durrell Molland of Martinsburg; and many cousins and friends of MD, SC, WV, and VA.

Reggie was very active in Special Olympics in several counties of WV. Winning multiple medals at the local and state competitions.

His favorite activities were riding his bike, playing basketball, bowling, and video games. He also loved NASCAR, Professional Football, and watching Pro Wrestling. He enjoyed visiting the fire departments in Keyser and Berkeley County and the different police departments in Martinsburg and Keyser.

He loved his nieces and enjoyed meeting his great niece at Christmas time.

He will be greatly missed by all left behind. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, James and Veda Hively, Russell and Helen Griffin; and one cousin, Rena Pugh.

Reggie attended several schools in Berkeley County and Hampshire High. He graduated from Hedgesville High in 2000. There he was “adopted” by many of the students and several of his teachers.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Cindy Wilson officiating.

Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery
