Jan Sigurd Gummel

Jan Sigurd Gummel of Inwood, WV, passed away on April 19, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital in Harrisburg, PA. A graduate of The Bullis School, located in Potomac, MD, he was a kind-hearted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Born September 28, 1945, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Edward F. and Martha I. Gummel. An avid photographer who loved to travel, he was also passionate about Ferraris and was a long-time member of the Ferrari Club of America.

He is survived by his loving wife Susanne M. Dahlgren of Inwood, WV; sons Colonel Quinn A. Gummel, USAF (ret.) and wife Sally (San Antonio, TX), and Torin A. Gummel and wife Lauren (Shady Side, MD), stepson Dr. Michael R. Betts and wife Tara (Springfield, PA); his sister, Marjorie Ann Gummel (Stevensville, MD) and her family; two grandchildren, Quinn A. II and Teghan M. Gummel; and two step-grandchildren, Sabrina E. and Vivian I. Betts.

He is also survived by Roberta S. Gummel (Castine, ME), widow of his brother, Edward L. Gummel; cousin Anders R. Lofstrand and wife Joanne (Myersville, MD); brother-in-law Bengt Dahlgren and wife Ulla-Britt (Sweden); and sisters-in-law Mariette Lund and husband Mats (Sweden), Anne-Madeleine Tarver (Rockledge, FL); Marie-Charlotte Mellot and husband Paul (Hagerstown, MD), and their families; and his favorite cat, Tazio Nuvolari.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Details for a celebration of life are forthcoming. Arrangements by Brown Funeral Home (Martinsburg, WV).
