Obituary for John Louis "Jack" Butts
John L. Butts, “Jack”, 84, of Martinsburg, WV went home to be with the Lord, peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 11, 2019.
Jack was born September 12, 1934 in Martinsburg. He was the oldest of seven children born to Jack and Mary Ella Butts.
Jack graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1953 and married his sweetheart, Elaine, on Friday, September 9, 1953 in Sharpsburg, MD.
He was a life-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Martinsburg, serving as a member of the Parish Council and as a lector for a number of years.
For 40 years, Jack served his community as a well-respected salesman for Kent Parson’s Ford, serving three generations of family. After his retirement, he was employed by Power Clean of Williamsport, MD and Patient Transportation of Martinsburg.
He was also a former member of The Elks Lodge and The Moose.
Jack was an avid sports fan. He was an accomplished duckpin bowler and received numerous awards, such as the Highest Set World Record in December of 1976 and setting the Pikeside Bowl House Record High Game of 234 in September of 1983.
Jack also loved music and was a beautiful singer who enjoyed weekly Karaoke nights with friends.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elaine Butts; his eight children: son, Robby Butts and wife Renita; daughter, Cindy Nicoletti and husband Robert, daughter, Vicky Schoppert and husband, Craig; daughter, Laura Gordon and husband, Mark; daughter, Cathy Slima and husband, Clint; son, Adam Butts; daughter, Christine (Butts) Collins; daughter, Aubrey Shipley and husband, Brian; thirteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Butts and Timothy Butts; and sisters Susan Taylor and Melissa Butts, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary Ella Butts; brother, Michael Butts; sister, Brenda Plotner; and a great-grandchild, Aiden Butts.
Family and friends will be received at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg on Monday, April 15, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m..
Requiem Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with Father DiBacco celebrant. Interment prayers will be said in Rosedale Cemetery.
