Obituary for Frances Jane Shade (Williams)

Frances Jane (Williams) Shade,98, passed away March 12, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born in Elkton, Rockingham County, Virginia on March 25, 1920, she was the eldest child of the late James Arthur and Hattie Alma Fielding Williams.

When Frances was a young girl, the family moved to Inwood where she attended Inwood Grade School and was a member of the Inwood Evangelical United Brethren Church.

During apple harvest, Frances worked at the C.H. Musselman Plant in Inwood. She started as a peeler and later worked in the vinegar bottling area.

On April 10, 1941, Frances married Curtis Leo Shade in Frederick, Maryland. They resided at their farm on Sulpher Spring Road where Frances lived for 78 years. She started attending Cedar Grove Christian Church on April 13, 1941. Frances J. Shade was the oldest and longest attending member of Cedar Grove Christian Church.

Her husband preceded her in death in December 1997

She is survived by sons, Carroll Curtis Shade and wife Mozelle, Glenville (Tadpole) Shade and wife Carolyn, and Kenny (Poncho) Shade; daughter Barbara and husband Larry Miller; daughter-in-law Judith A. Robinson Shade; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her death were son Thomas Edward; brother James Randolph Williams, Edward (Chub) Boyd Williams, Earl Franklin Williams, and Raymond (Buck) Arthur Williams; sisters Edith and husband James White, Ruby and husband Jim Jamison; Mary Evelyn and husband John Rose, and sister-in-law Carrie Collins Williams Whitacre.

Frances appreciated the members of Cedar Grove Christian Church who visited and brought communion to her.

Family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel Inwood WV on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Services will be Sunday, March 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel. Zach Lister, pastor of Cedar Grove Christian Church, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Brad Shade, Ben Shade, Nathan Miller, Dan Shade, Chad Shade, and Jerry (Buck) Whitmer.

Interment will be in Cedar Grove Christian Church Cemetery.
