Obituary for Helen Arietta Jones (Snyder)

Helen Arietta Jones,93, of Haysville, NC passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at her home.

Born February 28, 1925 in Kessel, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Curtis Snyder and Lillian Kessel Snyder.

Helen loved to travel and did so to Israel, Hawaii, and extensively throughout the United States. One of her more memorial trips involved her daughter, son-in-law, and four granddaughters (the youngest only 13 months old) on a three-week road trip out west.

She was a talented baker and candy maker. Her grandchildren especially loved her peanut butter balls. For more than 10 years she acted as a second mother to many children while providing in-home daycare while their parents were at work.

She was an active church member throughout her life serving as a Sunday School teacher, working in the Bus Outreach Ministry and holding various offices in the Ladies Ministry.

Helen never lost her sense of adventure, in her 80’s she rode the parachute drop at an amusement park in Florida, and she loved it.

She is survived by a daughter, Debbie A. Betsworth and her husband, Edward of North Carolina; two step-sons, Charles B. Jones, Jr. and William Jones, both of Martinsburg; a step-daughter, Penny Sue Jones, of Indiana; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren; two brothers, Curt Snyder and wife, Alice of Shenandoah Junction; and Wayne Snyder and wife, Trisha of Inwood; and a sister, Arvella R. Barr and her husband, Carl A. of Shepherdstown.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Basil Jones, Sr. her first husband Lee Andrew Pancake; a son, Roger Clinton Pancake, and granddaughter, Constance Arietta Walsh.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.at Brown Funeral Home.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday February13, 2019 at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Knight officiating Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
