Obituary for Lyndon Baines Johnson

Lyndon Baines Johnson, 56, passed away on January 29, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center. His friends and family knew him as Lenny. Born June 8, 1962 in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Charles William Johnson and Grace Elizabeth (Crawford) Johnson

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Teresa Evans-Johnson of Martinsburg, and the light of his life, his daughter Emily Anne Johnson of Martinsburg.

He is also survived by his brother, James Edward Johnson (wife Sharon); sister, Rita Sue Collis; and brother, Randy W. Johnson (wife Kathy). Also surviving him are his mother in law, Sylvia Evans; sister; in law Belinda Evans-Thompson (husband Ken), brother in laws Randolph Evans (wife Karen), Todd Evans (wife Laura), Jeffery Evans (wife Kendra). He will also be missed by his wife’s “assistant”, her nephew Sebastian Drake Evans. He had many nieces and nephews whom he loved and will miss him.

Lenny worked for the Town of Leesburg, a job that he took great pride in performing. He enjoyed fast cars (and was known to have a lead foot), camping, good music, and spending time with his family. He was known to be a jokester with an infectious laugh and would often be the center of attention with the stories he would tell. He was a man of large stature, but was a gentle giant who wore his heart on his sleeve. He loved his little family and wasn’t scared to show it. He would often say his biggest contribution to the world was his daughter, whom he treasured with all of his heart. She was always “daddy’s little girl” and his love for her was evident at the mere mention of her name or the way he lit up when he spoke of her. They truly had a special, and unbreakable bond. When Lenny was diagnosed with a terminal illness he vowed to never give up and to fight hard – a promise he kept until his earthly work was done. He was surrounded by loving family and knew as he peacefully left this world that he was unconditionally loved and that he left a lasting impact on those he met. Simply put – he was a good man – gone much too soon. As his daughter Emily (his Miss ‘Em) said: “Cancer didn’t win – Heaven did.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Delbert L. Evans.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood with Pastor Joel Silver officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Pleasant View Memory Gardens. A gathering of friends and family will commence directly after at the Bedington Ruritan Club.
