Obituary for Eileen Hollyday Kneisly (Schlotterbeck)

Eileen Hollyday Kneisly (Schlotterbeck)
Eileen H. Schlotterbeck Kneisly of Martinsburg, WV passed to the next life on January 12th, 2019.

Born January 1, 1931 in Hagerstown MD, she was the New Year blessing to her parents, the late Rhinehart V. Schlotterbeck and Mabel Hollyday Schlotterbeck.

She was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School where she was a beautiful cheerleader. She furthered her education by enrolling in nursing school at Martinsburg’s City Hospital School of Nursing and was a graduate of the Class of 1953. She dedicated her life to caring for others as she shared her hands of healing and knowledge by working for City Hospital and the VA Hospitals of Martinsburg, WV as a registered nurse. Her nursing journey took her to Minneapolis, MN and Helena, MT where she was employed with the Veterans Administration. She also cared for patients in the prison systems in North and South Carolina. She quenched her thirst of experiencing the United States and worked as a travel nurse with the Indian Hospital of Santa Fe, NM and various other facilities in Florida and Virginia. While working in Helena, MT, her love for working with Veterans also inspired her to volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Some of her activities included membership to the Jr. Women’s Club of Chevy Chase MD, Women’s Club of Hoffman Est. of Illinois, Republican Women’s Organization of Illinois, Women’s Fireman Auxiliary of Birdseye, Montana, Nurses Alumni of City Hospital in Martinsburg, WV and a member of the Beta Sigma Pi Sorority Chapters of Santa Fe, NM, Martinsburg, WV and Helena MT.
She is the loving mother of her 4 children, Diane R. (Annie) Seger of Williamsport, MD, Jeffrey K. Peterson, Daniel W. Peterson and Barbara Jo Schmith of Helena, Montana. She would often say, that her children were her absolute best accomplishments.

She is the proud Grammy of 6 grandchildren, Kendra Seger of Hawaii, Michael Peterson of Washington, Erik, Ryan and Braden Peterson of Montana and one adorable great-grandson, Jaxan Peterson. She also had tons of love to share with her numerous nieces and nephews.
Eileen was a woman of fine taste, exquisite style and was the ultimate hostess. She loved the fine arts and had quite the creative eye. She painted each of her grandchildren a painting that represented her love and admiration for what made them individuals. It was her way of giving each of them a piece of her.
She was gifted with rhythm and shared her dance skills with her children. They fondly remember their mother rolling up the carpets on their floor, taking their small hands and dancing the polka across the room. She loved to reflect on life while sitting on the beach and enjoying the sounds of her favorite singer, Aaron Neville, in addition to jazz and Hawaiian music.

Eileen was revered by many and had an extended non-biological family. She touched the lives of many that crossed her path. She exuded a light and fierceness that attracted any and all in her path. She lived a life of love, fun, laughter and accomplishment. We were blessed to learn many lessons from Eileen, the most important lesson being that true happiness comes from time well spent with your family. Her legacy will live on through all who loved her and each of us have become better people because of her.

Family will receive on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
