The Hand of Talent

Johnnie always had a fascination with flying, perhaps this was the reason he was so interested in birds. As kids, he made homemade wings; and we younger kids got to try them out. If they failed, it was always due to the fact, we did not flap our arms hard enough! My mother used to tell the story of how Johnnie would go off into the woods and when he returned, he'd draw her pictures of birds, for her to identify. I have posted some of his Whittling skills. The first bird he ever did for me, was when he whittled me a black cap chickadee, when I bought my home. He also brought me a Purple Martin house to draw the beautiful singing birds into my area. The Bowl he hand carved and signed. As Johnnie worked in tree service,(at times for the power company), it was not a happy moment when he pulled up in your yard to cut a favorite tree down that interfered with the power lines. I, was no exception to this rule. At one point I told him if he had the audacity to cut his own sisters' tree down,to at least carve it up into a bear! I came out one morning to find a huge bear sitting in my yard, chain sawed from a tree! Bobbie. the bear resides now in North Carolina and is dressed for every holiday! Johnnie often left smaller trees for people carved into a crocodile. He was my favorite tree trimmer. What a talent!!!
