Donald T.  Anderson
Donald Anderson, 91, of Martinsburg, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home.

Born April 15, 1927, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late, Paul Gilbert “Gib” Anderson and Nellie R. Hines Anderson

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and a Veteran of the United States Navy from 1945-1946.

He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School class of 1945 and a graduate of Shepherd College, with a Bachelor of Arts, George Washington University with a Master of Arts. He attended classes at West Virginia University, Marshall University, and the University of Virginia.

Donald retired from the Berkeley County Board of Education with 37 Years of service. He was the Deputy Superintendent of Schools from 1973-1987; Acting Superintendent of Schools, 1980 for 6 months; Assistant Superintendent of Schools, 1966-1973; Principal, John Street School, 1956-1966; Principal, Bedington School, 1953-1956; Principal, Blairton School, 1951-1953; and Principal and teacher, Buck Hill School, 1949-1951. He received the Berkeley County Citizen of the Year award in 1980 and the Martinsburg High School Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1981.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Lodge #778, Honorary Life Member, Parent- Teacher Association, Director Emeritus, Farmers and Mechanics Insurance Companies, member of AARP, the Moose Lodge, AMVETS Post #30, and the Knights of Columbus.

Donald was a former Board member of the Associates for Community Development, a member of the Berkeley County Building Commission, a member of the Berkeley County Civil Defense, President of the Berkeley County Principal’s Association, a member of the Berkeley Investment Club, a member of the Board of Health, District 6, Chairman, Vice -Chairman, Secretary, and member of the City Hospital Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the City of Martinsburg Board of Zoning Appeals, City of Martinsburg Councilman-at-Large 1990-2007 and 2012-2016, and City of Martinsburg Councilman Ward 1 1977-1980. Donald was a member of the Eastern Panhandle Inland Port Coalition Board, Farmland Protection Board, Subcommittee for Boydville, Director of the Martinsburg- Berkeley County Boys Club, member of the Board of Commissioners of the Martinsburg Housing Authority, Board member and delivery person for Meals on Wheels, a member of the Regional Health Advisory Committee, member of the Saint Joseph School Board, Director of the Shenandoah Adoption and Maternity Services, member of the Board of Advisors of Shepherd Community and Technical College, and member of the Board of Advisors of West Virginia School Administrators.

He is survived by a son, Ted Anderson and wife, Pam; a daughter, Sylvia Bradley; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha L. Thompson Anderson, a brother, Paul G. Anderson, and a son in-law, Hugh Wallace Bradley

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 8:00 p.m..

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father George Pucciarelli celebrant.

Interment prayers will be said in Rosedale Cemetery.
