Obituary for David Jay Vannoy

David Jay Vannoy, 75, of Clearbrook, VA passed away Thursday, Dec 13, 2018 at his home surrounded by family and friends, in the care of Hospice, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born July 9, 1943 in Charleston, WV. He was the son of the late Dempsey John Vannoy and Velma Holbert Vannoy.

David spent most of his young life in Richwood, WV but graduated from Manchester High School in Ohio. He attended Glenville State and Beckley College. He played basketball as a child, in high school, college, and countless pickup games and tournaments as an adult. He never lost his competitive spirit.

David worked for Rubber Fabricators and General Motors. He owned and operated his own businesses for many years including Apple Valley Supermarket, Western Steer Family Steakhouses, O’Shays Restaurant, and Vannoy Bail Bonding.

He loved God, family, friends, and basketball, He is survived by his wife, Roxanna Pugh Vannoy, two daughters and their families, Lisa Vannoy of Summit Point, Cindy Smith and husband Ken Smith of Winchester. Grandchildren, C J Lord and wife Justyn, Brittany Smith, Maria Haas, Kristen Smith, Emily Smith, Caroline Smith and great grandchildren, Kaelyn Lord, Colin Lord and Delilah Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son David Jay Vannoy

Family will receive friends Monday Dec 17, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Brown Funeral Homes South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday December 18, 2018 at the Winchester Church of God with Pastor Darrel Waller officiating with a Celebration of Life immediately after at the Church. Interment of his ashes will be at a later date in Richwood, WV.
