Obituary

Michael Meredith Grimm, 76, of Falling Waters, WV, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at home.

He was born at home on Porter Ave. in Martinsburg, WV, on August 25, 1942 to Harry Fonrose Grimm and Ruth Katherine (Michael) Grimm.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Suzann (Foster) Grimm; sister, Jacqueline Kay Donaldson and husband, Calvin, of Myrtle Beach, SC; son, Todd Michael Grimm and wife Melanie, of Kissimmee, FL; daughter, Kristen Michelle (Grimm) Shriver of Falling Waters, WV; granddaughters, Chelsea Grimm of Wilmington, NC, Charlsie Grimm of Kissimmee, FL, and Aeris Shriver, Olivia Shriver, and Delainey Shriver of Falling Waters, WV; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Darlene Grimm.

Mike grew up on Rock Cliff Drive in Martinsburg, WV. He attended Hedgesville schools from grade school through high school. He graduated from Hedgesville High School in 1960. After high school, he attended Railroad Communications School in Kansas City, Missouri. He then attended Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, WV. In 1961, at the age of 19, he began working at Corning Glass works in Inwood, WV. It was there that he met several great friends who shared his love of cars, and a racing career that would span 52 years began. Later, he opened his first auto parts store on Raleigh St. with his business and racing partner, Buck Kees. They owned and operated several locations of Performance Auto Parts through the year 2000.

In 1971, Mike married the love of his life, Suzann. Over the years they have enjoyed skiing, boating, racing, and traveling together.

Being an avid skier, Mike has worked as a Mountain Host at Whitetail Ski Resort in Mercersburg, PA since his retirement in 2000. He also worked at Falling Waters Campsite. He was an active member of Harmony United Methodist Church and a passionate member of the Volunteers in Mission Team, the Tri-State Hope Builders. Mike could be found working on the racecar, boating on the river or lake, working outdoors, cheering on the Redskins or WVU, lending someone a helping hand, or spending time with his girls.

Family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, December 12th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church at 9455 Williamsport Pike, Falling Waters, WV.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 13th at 6:00 p.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terri Cofiell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Harmony United Methodist Church/Volunteers in Mission Team at 9455 Williamsport Pike, Falling Waters, WV 25419.

Very sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. I last saw him a few years ago with Buck at Maple Grove. My dad Kenny Rose was one of his longtime drag racing buddies. Now, Mike has joined Dad and Jim Porterfield. The Gold Digger and The Patriot have welcomed The Trouble Truck to the heavenly quarter-mile. God Bless.

Mike was a member of the Hedgesville High School Class of 1960. There were only 23 of us and we mourn his passing. He was with us from the sixth grade clear through to graduation with the 12th grade and we got to know him well. He was blessed with the situation that he looked younger than he really was and when you are young, that is a bit of a challenge. Mike was always one of the good guys in the group, fully accepted by everyone, and known for his even temperedness and good will. When we had our 50th anniversary of our class he and I were the only ones who wore our original class ring to the gathering. He prized that association of time, place, and recognition. He was a good guy.
