Obituary for Phyllis Rae DeHaven (DeHaven)

Phyllis Rae DeHaven, 93, of Martinsburg passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018.

Born December 31, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Neva V. and Addison J. DeHaven.

In 1943 she graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD. After 47 years of Federal Government service, she retired in 1993 from the Martinsburg VA Medical Center as Secretary to the Chief of Staff. Phyllis often liked to tell of her early days working there during World War II when it was the Newton D. Baker Army Hospital. She was an expert on medical terminology and was the best “spell-checker” long before there were computers.

Phyllis was very proud to be a 50-year member of Trinity United Methodist in Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

To cherish her memory, she leaves cousins: Nadine DeHaven, Vicki Lanham, Rebecca Rockwell, Mary Ellen Dorsey, Catherine Mahoney and numerous other cousins; former co-workers and loyal friends: Ann Folk, Nancy Whitacre, and Jeanette Yeary.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Clary Grove North for their compassion and care for Phyllis during this last year and her neighbor friends (Ronald Stotler, Betty and James Myers), who kept a close watch on Phyllis while she was at home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Walker officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 220 West Martin Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
