Obituary for Richard A. "Dickie" Hager

Richard A. (Dickie) Hager, 71, died peacefully at his home in Martinsburg on November 10, 2018 under the care of Hospice from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on January 26, 1947 he was the son of the late Perry D. and Velma Pullins Hager of Inwood.

He attended Martinsburg High School and graduated from Musselman High School in 1964. He served in the 167th WV Air National Guard from 1966-1971. He was a meat cutter by trade; beginning his career at ACME Markets in 1965 and retiring from JBS Swift Co in 2012.

He was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Martinsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Perry D. Hager II and William “Willie” E. Hager and brother-in-law, Sheldon Tout.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nona Aliff Hager and their three children and seven grandchildren; Richard “Rich” A. Hager, Jr. (Nick and Zack), Lori Ann Hager (John) Murray (Kyle and Kennedy), Bradley “Scott” (Shelby) Hager (Allyson, Madison, and Brady); three sisters, Veldena (Wayne) Chapman, Lucille (Doug) Bennett, and Arlena Tout; sisters-in-law, Karen Aliff and Sherry Hager; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per his request, the body will be donated to the WVU School of Medicine.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, November 24, 2018 with Pastor Lynn Wilson officiating at Calvary United Methodist Church, 220 W. Burke Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401. Family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:00PM prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to Berkeley Senior Services, specifically to Caregiver Support, 217 N. High Street, Martinsburg, WV 25404.
