Edward L. (Bud) Swartz, 91, of Martinsburg went home Saturday October 27, 2018 to be with the Lord while a patient at the Community Living Center (Palliative Care Unit) of the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born February 23, 1927 in Hagerstown, MD. He was the son of the late Norman and Myrtle (Luttrell) Swartz. He was a member of the Virginia Avenue Church of the God in Hagerstown, MD. Also a member of the Martinsburg Lions Club and a Master Mason of Equality Lodge No. 44 in Martinsburg, WV. He also really enjoyed singing gospel music. He served in the Navy both in World War II and the Korean Conflict as a Navy Medical Corpsman. He worked for Schmidt Baking Company for over thirty-nine years starting as a route salesman and working his way up through various positions until serving as a plant manager of the Martinsburg Plant until he retired in 1992. After retiring, he worked part time for several years in the voter’s registrations office in Berkeley County. Bud enjoyed meeting the public and loved his family and friends and was a kind man with a big heart. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his son Dennis E. Swartz and his wife Marilyn of Kearneysville, whom he had resided with for the past four years. Also two step-daughters Debra S. Myers and Sherlyn A. Townsend both of Martinsburg. Five grandchildren Aimee Peters and husband Mark, Jason Myers and wife Sabrina, Erica Herndon and husband George, Jennifer Tinsman and husband Matthew, and Tyler Flook. He also had seven great grandchildren. He also had a special bond with his long-time neighbors Jennifer and Chris Fincham who he considered his adopted grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his two wives Gladys (Bender) Swartz and Betty (Higgins) Swartz, one brother Norman Swartz and a grandchild Tavis Roberts.

The family would like to say a very special thank you to Ms. JoAnne Miller, Dr. Jalazo and the staff of Martinsburg Internal Medicine, Panhandle Health, Hospice of the Panhandle, and all the staff of the Community Living Center (Palliative Care Unit) of the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg for the excellent care which was given to our father during the course of his illness.
