Condolence From: Larry Z. Daily
Condolence: I first met Doc when he opened Grandad's Hobby Shop in Springfield, VA. It was the best hobby shop I've ever visited, but what I remember most was how kind Doc always was to my son Benjamin when we came in. I was delighted years after moving to Shepherdstown to hear that Doc was moving here, too. It was always a delight to see him at the local train shows. He'll be greatly missed.

Condolence: Dear Gloria and Family,

Doc was a good friend and wonderful host. I remember fondly the evenings spent in his basement, with other enthusiasts, around his fascinating model railroad. To the end he was a great one for discussing model ideas. As late as this past summer, he helped me to solve a visual challenge in a scene I hope to create. I feel that I actually have to build it now! Yes, he will continue to be greatly missed.

Condolence: Doc:

Although we will miss you here, we know that you are in a better place with no pain and suffering.

I wonder if you are running trains now?

Condolence: Gloria and Family

We were very saddened to hear of "Doc's" passing away. He was a valued friend and fellow Train Chaser. Some of the best times were on drives to a swap meets in the D.C. area listening to Doc talk about trains and other things. He will truly be missed by everyone that knew him. May he rest in peace and forever in our hearts.

Condolence: To the family of Doc Thatcher - How sad to read of your loss, but what a blessed life. Another friend found the Wash Post notice and spread the word to we Arent Fox old timers. I shall share further. This man loved his hobbies and his family and left the firm excitedly looking forward to his next life. It is wonderful to know he made a special world and enjoyed life on his own terms. No one can ask for more.

Condolence: Gloria and family,

I'm really sorry to hear of Doc's death and your loss. It honestly brought the many happy memories of his smiling face, unique wit, and the many enjoyable hours we spent together when I was stationed in Washington. I learned more about railroads and American history from him than anyone else sitting in your house with other friends watching and discussing the seemingly endless DVD's he had collected. Visits to Granddad's were always a memorable experience. He is missed.

Condolence: Doc is one of finest gentlemen I have ever known. He was kind, friendly and outgoing. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. I will treasurer the many happy hours we spent pursuing model trains and real trains together. I enjoyed his hospitality many times. We should all contribute to a favorite railroad historical society in his memory.
