Obituary for Joan Marian Staubs

Joan Marian (Manspeaker) Staubs went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 7, 2018. She died at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown WV.

Born February 5, 1932 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late George Ernest Manspeaker and Martha Anna (Davis) Manspeaker.

Joan graduated from Martinsburg High Class of 1950. She was a dedicated Mother to four wonderful children. She was married to James M Staubs of Martinsburg until 1974. She had a passion for the military and their mission and worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) in the USA and abroad. She took part in their upward mobility program and became dedicated store manager for the Service. She had a long and successful career and retired in 1992 after 22 ½ years of service. She loved seeing the military and their families in this way.

After retirement she returned to Martinsburg to be near her older sisters and children in nearby states. She was of the Christian faith and a member of the Winchester Avenue Christian Church as a child and following her retirement. She was an active member of the church as a participant of the IC Busey Class, the Christian Women’s Fellowship and Free for Lunch Senior Program. She also sang in the church choir and played in the chime choir. She became a deaconess in 1998. She served for 8 yrs. then became an elder serving for 12 yrs. in that position. She became an elder emeritus in 2018. She loved her church and it played an important part in her life as did her belief in Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Wilson, Romona Schell, and Dorothy Snavely. She is survived by her sister Norma Pappada of Niles, Ohio.

She is survived by her four children, two daughters, Deborah Zedek and Patricia Reeves and husband Jon; two sons, James Staubs, Jr. and wife Peggy and David W. Staubs and wife Barbara; seven grandchildren; Joseph Zedek and wife Marlene; Jodi Barlock and significant other Joe, Robert Staubs, Laura Staubs, Christopher Reeves and wife Christina, Cheryl Reeves and husband Scott, Cole Staubs; six great-grandchildren, Anthony, Alyssa, Darren, Jasmine, Alana and Cayden; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Ben. C Manning officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winchester Avenue Christian Church Bereavement Fund in memory of Joan where she worked at the clothe's closet at the church and enjoyed working there. She also served for 10 years at CCAP
