Obituary for Edgar Jennings Mason

Edgar Jennings Mason
Edgar Jennings Mason went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Edgar was born on January 22, 1940 to Helen and Bill Mason in Inwood, WV. He was born and lived out his 78 years on what is now known as True Apple Way.

Edgar is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Creamer Mason; three daughters, LuRae Baird and husband David, Wendy Kief and husband Todd, Anne Barrett and boyfriend Josh Arnold; five grandchildren, Bergan Miller and husband Matt, Kaitlyn May and husband Kenny, Dillon Holbrook and wife Meagan, Samantha Barrett and Hallie Kief; one great grandchild, Brynn Monroe Miller; In-laws Eleanor Rickard and husband David, and Penny Ahalt; multiple cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Barry Lynn Mason.

Edgar graduated from Musselman High School. At 18 he joined the United States Army reserves. He enjoyed his youth running around with his good friends. They were quite the crew and he loved them all. Many a story was told of their antics.

Edgar worked in the Ford parts department in his early years and then went to work for the family business, Mason's Transfer. He drove tractor trailers and worked as a mechanic until he took over the business in 1969, after his father passed away. He ran Mason's Transfer until selling in the late 70's, when he began to sell real estate in Pikeview Acres. Edgar also worked for Berkeley County as an assessor.

Edgar was a lifelong member of the Inwood United Methodist Church. He was a lay leader, president of the trustee's and served on many other committees. He was a member of the Junior Order of the United American Mechanics and American Fraternal Order with Foundations of Virtue, Liberty and Patriotism. He was treasurer of the Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority and worked very hard to establish recycling in Berkeley County. He was on the board of the Gateway Youth Home and worked to give Inwood a storm water management system.

Edgar was a proud resident of Inwood. He loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 12, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the South Berkeley Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral chapel, with Pastor Tim Butler officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
