Harold Edward Ambrose, 87, of Martinsburg, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the VA Medical Center.

Born Sunday, January 4, 1931, in Berkeley Springs, WV, he was the son of the late Harold Ambrose, Sr. and Arvella Ruth Ambrose.

He graduated from Martinsburg High School class of 1949. He was a United States Army Veteran serving as a Supply Sergeant in Texas during the Korean War after which he received an Honorable Discharge.

Once Harold returned to WV from his time in the Service, he became a business man in the truest of forms. His businesses varied from running a small Pizza Stop to owning small local Convenience Stores such as the “Toll House”, “H&J Market’, Tri-State Wholesale, as well as the Market House in Downtown Martinsburg. Along with the small businesses Harold owned and operated he managed to carry full time positions with local Companies as a wholesale distributor. Harold retired from F.A. Davis & Sons, Inc. at the age of 65. He decided to return to work as a full time Security Officer at First Data in Hagerstown. M D until the age of 82.

Since the age of 9 he has been an avid coin and stamp collector. He thoroughly enjoyed buying, trading, and selling the things he collected.

Harold enjoyed the opportunity of traveling with his wife Edith Marie “Pete” across the American South West, the New England States as well as taking many Cruises throughout the Caribbean Islands.

He loved animals, owning an array of dogs and cats over the years. After his wife Edith’s passing, his constant companions were his cats, Baby Girl One, Baby Girl Two of which both have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Baby Girl Thee which will be joining the household of Debbie Donivan, Harold’s daughter.

He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Donivan and husband, Kenneth; one grandson, Kenneth Lee Donivan, Jr. and wife Samantha; one great granddaughter, Audrey LeeAnn Donivan; two step daughters. Sherry Porterfield, Terri Charlton and husband Don; a number of step grandchildren and a number of step great grandchildren; and one brother, Jack T. Ambrose.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Edith Marie “Pete” Roberts Ambrose; and one sister, Jean Zombro.

Family will receive friends on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Turley officiating. Military graveside services will be held in Rosedale Cemetery.
