Raymond Herrell "Buddy"  Barker
Raymond Herrell “Buddy” Barker, born March 12, 1936 departed this life on May 29, 2018. He was the only child of the late Martha A. (Dick) and Raymond A. Barker.

He married Jane J. Everetts in 1956 and is survived by three children: Rayla J. Owens and husband Tim; Bretly H. Barker and wife Anna; Ruston H. Barker; and four grandchildren; he is also survived by one aunt, Helen Bivens.

Buddy will be remembered for his athletic ability and participation in sports at Martinsburg High School, where he was honored to be in their first group of Hall of Fame athletes.

After signing his first professional contract he played most of his minor league career in AAA ball where he led various leagues in numerous categories.

During his major league career he wore uniforms for the Orioles, Indians, and Yankees, playing with Brooks Robinson, Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, etc. As a Yankee he tied a major league record for back-to-back pinch hit home runs.

After retiring from baseball, he spent numerous years coaching his sons’ teams from Farm League to Little League and won several state champions.

Buddy worked at General Motors as a security officer until his retirement, at which time his attention turned to golf, skeet shooting, hunting, bowling, and fishing.

He was a life-long member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

The last years of his life were spent in nearby nursing homes battling Parkinson’s disease.

Family will receive friends on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 2:00PM at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. John Yost officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Following the graveside service everyone is invited back to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for a time of refreshment and fellowship.
