Obituary for Edna Love Alt (Miller)

Edna Love Shirley Alt, 93, of Hedgesville passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

Born June 2, 1924 in Tomahawk, WV she was the daughter of the late Pola Carp Miller and Jessie Grace Luttrell Miller and raised by aunt and uncle Clarence and Edith Dellinger.

She was a life-long member of Tomahawk Christian Church where she received special recognition for 27 years of perfect attendance. She had been attending Central Chapel for the past five years.

Edna’s working career began at North Mountain Orchard, Rooneys Packing Shed where she was a packer, C.H. Musselman as a peeler; and later at Interwoven Mills. She and her husband, Harold, later became owner/operator of Shirley Grocery.

She was a member of Tomahawk Homemakers Club and the Berkeley Senior Center Kitchen Band. Her hobbies included crocheting and making quilts.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Kaye Shirley Tyson and friend David Shawyer, Sarah Love Shirley Detter and husband Kenneth; five grandchildren, Kimberly Hatfield and husband Paul, Paul “Ty” Tyson and wife Marissa, Tabatha Tyson, Timothy H. “TH” Tyson and wife Lisa, and Tia Slonaker and husband Wesley; eleven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hatfield, Kollin Hatfield, Austin Arnold and Jessica Arnold, Seth Tyson, Ethan Tyson, Mikaela Tyson, Junior Slonaker, Chloe Slonaker, Ian McCauley, and Brady Tyson; and half-sister, Oletta Stottlemeyer.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Shirley, her second husband, Kermit Alt; one grandchild Dana Detter; four brothers, Vincent, Fred, Stewart, and Douglas Miller; two sisters, Mildred Knott and Geraldine Miller who passed in infancy; and one half-sister, Frances Noll.

Family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Wallsworth officiating. Interment will be in Tomahawk Christian Cemetery.
