Obituary for Martha Jean Ullom McClure (Ullom)

Martha Jean Ullom McClure
October 21, 1931 – December 16, 2016

Martinsburg, WVA - Daughter of William & Delilah Ullom, sister of Barbara Ullom Varner, beloved wife of Edward Marshall McClure and mother to Stephen Mark McClure, Martha Jean McClure was united with her parents, sister, husband, son and Savior on Friday, December 16, 2016.

Born in 1931 in Waynesburg, PA., Martha was a graduate of Waynesburg High School and Waynesburg College where she studied biology, receiving a Bachelor of Science that enabled her to pursue a successful career as a Medical Technologist. While attending college, Martha was a member of the Alpha Gamma Theta Sorority and was elected as Homecoming Queen and to the May Court as May Queen.

Just a little more than 24 hours after she was crowned as the Waynesburg College May Queen, Martha became the bride to the love of her life, Edward McClure in a 2:30pm service on Sunday May 3, 1953 at the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg, Pa.

Once married, Marth and Ed embarked on an exciting and complimentary career paths, that enabled them to travel, live and work abroad and in various locations across the U.S. Martha loved good food, socializing, gardening, attending church, engaging in active bible study and participating in various community outreach programs. With a wonderful smile that could light up a room and quick wit of humor Martha was loved by many people. Regardless of how busy she was with life, she could always take pause and reflect on how blessed she was, giving thanks to the Lord for his love and guidance.

As Martha and Ed made their final home in Martinsburg, WV, she became active in the community serving as a member of the Martinsburg Women’s Club, a member of the Berkeley County Educational Outreach Service (CEOS), Master Gardner Club, active member of First Presbyterian Church, all the while participating regularly in the Berean Bible Study Group.

Martha always had a glean in her eyes and quick and forever lasting smile that attracted people to her genuine beauty. She was a favorite and dear aunt for her many nieces and nephews and regularly celebrated holidays and birthdays with them. She also had a fond spot in her heart for animals, with a special attraction to birds and dogs that would seek her out for her attention and love.

She is survived by her brother in laws; Mr. Donald R Varner, Sr., Mr. Harold Ray McClure, sister in laws, Judy McClure White, Jill McClure Wright and eleven nieces and nephews who brought great joy to her.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the love and care provided by her doctors, especially, Dr. Cathy Funk and her wonderful caregivers; Deborah Weaver, Christine Darlington, Darlene Grona and Christine Graham.

The Brown Funeral Service, Martinsburg, WV, has been entrusted with arrangements which include a Visitation and Memorial service at the South Berkeley Chapel, presided by the Reverend Rufus Burton, at 287 Arden Nollville Road, Inwood WV, 25428 at 1:00pm and 2:00pm respectively, Wednesday December 28, 2016.

Her Burial service will be on the following Thursday, December 29 at 12:00pm at the Greene County Memorial Park, 1003 Jefferson Rd, Waynesburg PA, 15370.
