Obituary for Gerald Eugene Ingram, Sr.

Gerald Eugene  Ingram, Sr.
Gerald Eugene Ingram, Sr., passed to his heavenly home on May 17, 2013, at the Martinsburg VA Center.

Gerald also known as Roney was born in Dargan, MD, on July 25, 1923 to the late Dola Ingram.

He lived in Martinsburg for most of his life and was raised by his grandmother, Laura Ingram. He graduated from Martinsburg High School, Class of 1941.

Gerald was a veteran of World War II with the 179th infantry regiment, Thunderbird Division serving in the Mediterranean Theater of Operation in Africa and Italy. He was wounded in Anzio, Italy, and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Newton D. Baker Post #896; and a member of the U.C.T.

He retired from General Motors in 1989 with 20 years of service. He was employed in the skilled trades department as a pipe-fitter and was also skilled trades chairman for the Local UAW
He had been previously employed at the VA Medical Center for 16 years and at Shenandoah Downs.

He was an avid sports fan and loved the WVU Teams and the Baltimore Orioles. He played softball and fast pitch softball in the 1950's with Hose Co. No. 5 in and around Martinsburg.

Mr. Ingram was a member of Westview Baptist Church and former member of Calvary Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Litaker-Ingram, his children, Gerald E. Ingram, Jr., and wife, Carol, Susan I. Heerd and husband, Gary, Todd R. Ingram and wife, Cindy, all of Martinsburg, Juli A. Richardson and husband, Preston, of Nitro, WV, and Eric Ingram, of Staten Island, NY; his grandchildren, Joshua Ingram, of Morgantown, WV, McKenzie Ingram and Keegan Ingram, of Martinsburg; and great-granddaughter, Kynason Ingram, of Martinsburg. He had 7 step- children and 12 step-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, C. Douglas Tucker, and wife, Roxie, of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Laura Ingram, his mother, Dola Ingram Tucker and his late wife, Beatrice Dehaven Ingram.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Brown Funeral Home's South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood, with the Rev. Johnny Kelly officiating. Interment will be held at Pleasant View Memory Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 24th, at the South Berkeley Chapel.
