Ruth M. Solenberger Dobbins passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 in Newark, Delaware at the age of 101.

Born June 16, 1917 in Winchester, VA, Ruth was the daughter of the late Charles M. Solenberger and Ruth (Metz) Solenberger. She graduated from Martinsburg High School, WV in 1935 and from Bridgewater College in 1939.

Ruth was married to Fred A. Dobbins, of Blacksburg, VA for 45 years until his passing in 1990. They lived in Arlington Heights, IL for 25 years and retired to Sanford, NC, before her final move to Newark in 1991.

Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; three brothers, Charles, Tom, and Elbert Solenberger; and two sisters, Mildred Miller and Virginia Janney. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Dobbins and Heather Dobbins Johnston of Newark, DE, son-in-law Murray Johnston, grandson M. Andrew Johnston, granddaughter Kathryn Johnston, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ruth taught elementary school for many years. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was active in her church, most recently First Presbyterian Church in Newark, P.E.O., bridge club and various other groups. She was an excellent cook and hostess. Her home was always open to family and friends with great food and much laughter. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and love of people.

A private graveside service will be held at the Falling Waters Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Spring Mills, WV. A visitation will be held in the home of her daughter, Heather, on Friday July 6, 2-5 pm.
