Virginia Markley Potter, 91, died at her home with her family by her side on, Wednesday, June 27, 2018.

Born at her home in Liberty Furnace, VA on September 23, 1926. Raised by her grandparents Nellie and William Markley and Aunt Lillie Markley in Liberty Furnace, VA.

She attended school in Liberty Furnace, VA and Columbia Furnace, VA.

Virginia married Harley Thomas Potter while he was serving in the United States Army in Kingman, Arizona on October 16, 1943 and shared nearly 73 years together before his death in 2016.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucy Ellen and step father, Brady Markley; sister, Betty Markley; daughter in-law, Libby Potter of Kearneysville; half brothers, Richard Markley and William Bruce Markley; and by her honorary brothers, Albert, Elmer, and Melvin Markley.

She is survived by children Paul Potter of Martinsburg, Roger Potter of Kearneysville, Linda Brooks and husband, John of Kearneysville, Karen Crowl and husband Mike of Martinsburg, Patricia Knighten and husband, Brently ā€œJā€ of Kearneysville, Vickie Breitenberg and husband, William of Kearneysville, and special friend, Karen Mills of Kearneysville, seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and eight step- great- great grandchildren.

She worked seasonal work and retired from Musselman Fruit Plant.

She was of protestant faith and a longtime active member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, Kearneysville, WV since 1946.

Family will receive friends on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home and on Saturday, June 30, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church prior to the service.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Kearneysville, with Rev. David Beeson officiating. Interment will be held at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund to Grace Reformed UCC, PO Box 207 Kearneysville, WV 25430 or to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane Kearneysville, WV 25430.
