Obituary for Dr. G. Raye Feltner-Kapornyai (Feltner)

Dr. G. Raye Feltner-Kapornyai (Feltner)
Dr. G. Raye Feltner-Kapornyai, 73, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Care Haven Center, Martinsburg, WV.

Raye was born March 20, 1945, with identical twin sister, Faye, in Martinsburg, WV to the late James Ira Feltner, Jr., and Mildred Jane Batten Feltner.

She was a 1963 graduate of Martinsburg Senior High; attended Shepherd College and graduated from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO; and earned her Doctorate in Theology from Lexington Theological Seminary, Lexington, KY. She was ordained on May 27, 1973 at Winchester Avenue Christian Church.

Her ministry led her to travel around the world and share her faith with so many wonderful people. She met and married Rev. Daniel Feltner-Kapornyai on September 9, 1978 and was blessed to be a second “mom” to his five children. Daniel went home to His Lord and Savior on December 11, 2012.

Raye worked in the Disciples of Christ State Office in North Carolina with the Women’s division for 12 years and was instrumental with integrating the churches. She also worked in Indianapolis, IN, with the National Headquarters Women’s Ministry. Later, she pastored churches in Oklahoma and New Mexico. After returning to the Eastern Panhandle of WV in July 2014, she transferred her church membership back to Winchester Avenue Christian Church. Her favorite scripture was Matthew 7:7 and her prayer was that ALL accept Christ as their savior.

Following surgery in March 2012, she developed complications and was a resident in Emerald Ridge Rehab Center, Asheville, NC for 2 years. While there, she met her soul mate, William Webb, who gave her encouragement and support. William went home to his Savior on April 25, 2014.

Raye was also predeceased by her precious step-daughter, Amy Drdek, and brothers-in-law: James L. Castleman, Charles I. VanDeMark, Jr., and Paul Wayne Ott.

Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her twin sister, Nellie Faye Castleman of Martinsburg, WV; sister, Ellen VanDeMark Ott of Martinsburg, WV; brother and wife, David and Brenda Feltner of Berkeley Springs,WV; sister and her husband, Sylvia and Robert Nowlin, of Oviedo, FL; daughter, Clare Williams, of St. Petersburg, FL; step-children: Phyllis Brown and husband, Keith, of Durham, NC; Dan Kapornyai and wife, Wrenne, of Wake Forest, NC; Tim Kapornyai and wife, Jody, of Danville, VA; Alan Kapornyai and wife, Mary, of Palm Bay, FL; and many other family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Care Haven for the wonderful care that they provided for Raye while she was a resident.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Winchester Avenue Christian Church with Rev. Benjamin Manning officiating. Those wishing to honor Raye’s memory may make a donation to Winchester Avenue Christian Church, 412 Winchester Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
