Obituary for Elsie Virginia Gore (Pierce)

Elsie Virginia Gore, 94, of Inwood passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.

Born August 14, 1923 in Leetown, WV she was the daughter of the late John Baker Pierce and Mary Shaull Blue Pierce.

She was a 1941 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a 1945 graduate of Kings Daughters Nursing where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. She did private duty and worked as a staff nurse at Kings Daughters Hospital until they closed and retired from City Hospital in 1985. She was a member of Kings Daughters Alumni Association.

She was a 67year member of Pikeside United Methodist Church where she had been involved in the youth department and as a Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her son Wayne Gore and wife Lisa of Inwood; one grandson, Jason D. Paul and wife Tracey of Bunker Hill; one great-grandson, Wesley Dalton Paul; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Stewart Luther Gore; three brothers, Paul C. Pierce, John B. Pierce, Jr., and Charles W. Pierce; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Butler.

Family will receive friends on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the South Berkeley Chapel with Pastor Bill Ball officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430 or Pikeside United Methodist Church, 25 Paynes Ford Road, Martinsburg, WV 25405.
