Obituary for Janice Lee Lamp (Downey)

Janice Lee Downey Lamp, 86, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.

Born September 30, 1931 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Olen Cook Downey and Esther Lee Homer Downey.

She graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1949, spent a year at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and later earned her teaching degree from Shepherd University.

She retired from teaching after 28 years at Winchester Avenue Elementary School and one year at Back Creek Valley Elementary School.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She is a Past President of Tuscarora CEOS; Past President of Berkeley County Meals on Wheels; a member of the Golden Rule Order of the Eastern Star and Beloved member of the “Beach Bums.”

She is survived by five sons, James D. Lamp and significant other Donna Myers, Olen J. Lamp and wife Katrina, Eric W. Lamp and husband Angel Betancourt, Kerry Lamp and wife Sandy, and Jon Christopher Lamp and wife Shelly; daughter in law, Sharon; ten grandchildren; Jennifer Bennett, Kellen Lamp, Jaryn Zampelli, Jessica Jordan, Jonathan Lamp, Patrick Lamp, Spencer Lamp, Aaron Lamp, Micah and Dominique Benson; five great-grandchildren; Morgan Bennett, Ashton Bennett, Avery Bennett, Kennedy Jordan, Audrey Jordan; one brother, Donald Olen Downey;

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Robbie Lamp, who passed away in 1981.

Family will receive friends on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Brown Funeral Home from 6:00PM-8:00PM.

Services will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00AM with Rev. Dr. John W. Cushwa officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle; Hedgesville United Methodist Church; Berkeley County Meals on Wheels, or Board of Childcare.
