Obituary for John M. Kursey Jr.

John M. Kursey, Jr., departed this life peacefully on April 22, 2018 after a short illness.

Born on December 20, 1933, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late John M. Kursey, Sr. and Beulah V. Thompson Kretzer.

John served his country proudly with a military career spanning 38 years from 1950 until his retirement on December 21, 1988.

He retired from both the United States Air Force and the West Virginia Air National Guard 167th Tactical Airlift Group having achieved the rank of CSMSgt.

John loved to hunt, fish, and golf. He enjoyed hunting, not only locally, but also in Wyoming, for mule deer and antelope, fishing for salmon in Alaska, and his annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach with Junior Smallwood, Eddie Porturica, and Roland Kelchner, all of whom worked with him for many years at the 167th.

His military career allowed him to fly around the world several times and see countries, people, and places, and experience things that most people never do.

He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years Faye L. Anderson Kursey, whom he married on April 4, 1959.

Also surviving are son Michael S. Kursey (Margaret) and daughter Jodi L. Braithwaite (Barry); four grandchildren whom he loved and cherished Elizabeth C. Kursey, Brooks M. Kursey, Skylar L. Braithwaite, and Bryce D. Braithwaite.

As per John’s wishes there will be no services or visitations.
