Obituary for Thelma Jean Rose

“God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be. So, He wrapped his arms around you, and He whispered come to me.” On April 18, 2018, surrounded by loved ones at home, Thelma went to be with her Lord.

Born July 5, 1939 in Clintwood, VA., she was the daughter of Corbett W. Fleming, Frances (Yates) Fleming, and Margie Rasnick. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Gerald Rose and son-in-law Rollin (Craig) Long of Hedgesville.

God gave us an angel to be taught, loved, and raised by. She was the mother of Debbie Long of Hedgesville, Jerry Rose of Martinsburg, Terry (Christina) Rose of Gerrardstown, Chad Rose of Martinsburg and two special mothers of her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Meyer) Rose and Rebecca (Porterfield) Rose.

She was Nana to 12 grandchildren whom she adored, Heather (Rick) McCain, Nikki (Tripp) Dailey, Brandy (Aaron) Pulse, Jenna (C.J.) Gainey, Cassi, Macey, Halle, Logan, Dustin (Ashley) Braelynn, Baby Sara, and Madison Rose: and 14 great grandchildren.

She is survived by her brothers Corbett Fleming Jr. (Sam) and wife Evelyn of Church Hill, Tennessee, and Frederick Charles Fleming (Chuck) and wife, Debbie of Semi Valley, California.

Thelma loved spending time with her family. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother and friend. She always thought of others first. “To know her was to love her.”

Thelma requested a private memorial service to be held at a later date. Her children would like to take this opportunity to thank Hospice of the Panhandle, friends, and family who helped care for her and supported the family throughout this difficult time.

Thelma was a light so bright that even though she has passed, that light will never be extinguished, but instead passed on through her children, grandchildren, and all the lives she touched.

Memorial contributions can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9929.

Arrangements were provided by Brown Funeral Home.
