Obituary for Ronald Keith Smallwood

Ronald Keith Smallwood, 80, of Martinsburg passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.

Born September 21, 1937 in Muse, PA he was the son of the late Barnett W. Smallwood and Dorothy McKinney Smallwood.

He was a four-year veteran of the US Marine Corps.

He was a 1955 graduate of Martinsburg High School where he lettered in baseball, football, basketball, and track. He was inducted into the Inaugural Class of 2009 Martinsburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a proud member of the 1954 undefeated football team. He attended University of Virginia and earned his B.S. in Biology from Shepherd College, and MBA from Frostburg State University. He retired from 3M after 32 years.

He was a member of Bedington United Methodist Church.

Ron enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting and was a member of the Creek Hill Hunting Club. He coached little league and pony league baseball and softball for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bryarly Smallwood of Martinsburg; children, Tracy Doescher and husband, Eric of Covington, LA, Jennifer Fleming and husband, Chris of Martinsburg, Lauron Smallwood of Martinsburg, and Anthony Smallwood and wife, Kelly of Harrisonburg, VA; grandchildren, Kelsey Markey, Shelby Markey, Ace Doescher, Anthony Carter, Morgan Fleming, Drew McKown, Corinne, Alice, and Miriam Smallwood; great-grandchild, Sage Poccaroba; twin sisters, Colleen Custer and husband, James and Collette Caniford and husband, Terry; sister-in-law, Mary Miller; numerous nieces and nephews; and classmates and friends from Wellness Center; and faithful companion Buddy.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 1:30PM at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. W. Scott Summers and Rev. Walter Bowers officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
