Obituary for Charlotte Wendel

Charlotte Wendel, 88, of Martinsburg passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Canterbury Center.
Born March 2, 1929 in American Samoa she was the daughter of the late Lt. Commander Clarence Earnest Kastenbein and Elsie Wright Kastenbein.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Shepherdstown.
She graduated Burr and Burton Academy in Bennington, VT and then attended Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT where she graduated in 1951; and she taught English at St. Andrew’s Priory in Honolulu, HI for nine years and then at the NJ Commission for the Blind. She and her husband lived in Parsons for 35 years and moved to Berkeley County in 1987. She taught piano for many years and had volunteered with various organizations including Altar Guild in Trinity Episcopal Church, Shepherdstown.
She is survived by her husband whom she married July 7, 1962, George William Wendel; one son, Bernard “Bernie” Wendel and wife, Nichole of Waterford, MI; one daughter, Chris Wendel-Rush and husband, Rich of Jefferson, PA; and four grandchildren, Alex and Reagan Rush and Jessica and Lucas Wendel.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 1:00PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 W. German Street, Shepherdstown with Rev. G.T. Schramm officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s name to the Trinity Episcopal Church, Building Fund, PO Box 308, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
