Obituary for Rick Johnson


Rick Johnson, 66, of Martinsburg passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his residence.

Born July 31, 1951 in Martinsburg.

Rick loved sports being a Redskin, Celtic’s, WVU, and Duke fan. He was known for love of softball, basketball, and football.

In the late 70’s Rick coached the St. Joseph Church League Softball Team to the championship. And in the 80’s he coached the Free Agents Flag Football Team to two Berkeley County Flag Football League Championships.

Rick always held his life-time friends together by having them play on his teams. He considered them as the Brotherhood and they all felt the same.

Rick stayed involved in playing sports well into his 50’s and will be missed by all.

Rick will be sadly missed by his wife of 31 years Cynthia Sanbower Johnson, daughter Racheal Legg and husband Cody with the pride of his life his two year old grandson, Landon.

He leaves behind his mother Phyllis Johnson; brother Tom Johnson and wife Harriet; along with aunts Barbara Brittingham, Janet and Legarde McBee, his uncle Bill Knipe; with many cousins; and mother-in-law, Linda Carol Sanbower.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Scott Sanbower; uncle Roger Johnson; and his father, Marvin “Boots” Johnson.

Family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home.
