Obituary for Donald Wayne Gregory

Donald Wayne Gregory, of Martinsburg, WV passed away on January 1, 2018. He was 74 years old.

Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Kay Gregory; two sons, Jeffrey A. Gregory of Martinsburg, Brian E. Gregory and wife, Dana of Martinsburg; one daughter, Staci M. Gregory (Manuel) of Charles Town; five grandchildren, Shyanne Gregory, Lauren Gregory, Brandon Gregory, Victoria Manuel, and Tyler Manuel; one great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Cook; one sister, Virginia "Sue Bell" Long; one brother, Roger Poole; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl C. Gregory Poole; father, William Evers Gregory; three brothers, William "Billy" Gregory, Thomas "Tommy" Gregory, and Paul E. Gregory; and two sisters, Ella "Jane" Brown and Patricia Bowers.

Donald was born on March 7, 1943 in Martinsburg, WV to William and Pearl Gregory. He attended Martinsburg High School, where he excelled as a member of the varsity football team. After graduating from MHS in 1962, Donald enlisted in the US Army. Following four years of service, he was honorably discharged in 1966 and began working at E.I. DuPont in Falling Waters where he worked for 29 years before retiring. After his retirement, Donald worked numerous years for Roger Barnhart at both Barnhart's Supermarket and County Market in Martinsburg; and for Roach Oil in Martinsburg. He also served many years as a Martinsburg City Councilman.

Donald was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge, both in Martinsburg. He also enjoyed helping coach his sons in midget league football and his granddaughter, Lauren Gregory, in the Berkeley County Girls Youth Softball League at Charlotte Prather Park. Donald also enjoyed many years of hunting with both of his sons.

Donald passed away peacefully at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at the Bedington Ruritan Club, 3947 Williamsport Pike, Martinsburg, WV on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Donald's life and share your special memories with his family.
