Obituary for John L. "Jack" Burkett Jr.

John "Jack" L. Burkett, Jr.,81, passed away on Tuesday, October 17,2017, at home surrounded by family on October 17, 2017.

He was born on October 17, 1936 in Dundalk, MD., he was son of the late John L. Burkett, Sr. and Mildred Burkett.

While living in the Hedgesville and Falling Waters, WV area, he was a pillar of the community with old fashion values. In WV, he was involved with several organizations. He was a member of Hedgesville Lions Club. As a member of the Hedgesville United Methodist Church, he was a trustee of the church, chairman of the administration council, and a member of the choir since 1973. He was a lifetime member and a President of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International. For 12 years, he volunteered for the PASS in Berkeley County, Martinsburg.

While pursuing his education and career, he attended Hillsdale College, Michigan in 1959. After graduation, he was employed by General Motors; while working with his uncle that was CEO at the time. John transferred in 1966 to Michigan, in order to jump start his career. While in Michigan, he was a President of the Flint Ski Club and Vice President of the Flint Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jacqueline; one daughter, Rebecca L. Burkett; one granddaughter, Jeanette Burkett; one brother, Tom Burkett; also several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by two sons, John L. Burkett III, who was killed in the line of duty while serving with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department and Scott A. Burkett, and two brothers, Robert and Phillip.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Dennis Jackman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial made be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
