Obituary for Granville O. "Buddy" Stewart

Granville O. "Buddy" Stewart, 86 of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2017 while under the care of the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit of the Martinsburg VA Medical Center.
Born October 11, 1930 in Berkeley County, WV, he was the son of the late Granville and Mary Pearrell Stewart.
Surviving are his son, Granville William "Bill" Stewart of Martinsburg; and two daughters, Sharon Elizabeth Fields of Ranson, and Patricia Ann Collis of Pikeside; two granddaughters, Lauren Elizabeth Dearman of Westover, WV, and Katherine Ann Fields of Shepherdstown; two great-grandchildren, Ava Marie Fields and Owen Eugene Dearman. Buddy is also survived by his loving sister, Peggy V. Pownall of Martinsburg, in addition to many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Buddy was formerly employed at the Interwoven Mills and retired as a knitting superintendent from Royce Hosiery Mills. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a member of Our Class Sunday School. He was also a member of the American Legion Berkeley Post #14 and the Elks Lodge #778.
Buddy was an avid gardener and reader, and he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and golfing in his earlier years. He was very devoted to his family , and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He instilled in his family the importance of working hard and doing one's best, as well as showing kindness, compassion, and respect for others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Clovis Elizabeth Swartz Stewart, and three sisters, Jessie Stewart, Betty Faircloth, and Nancy Steryous.
Family will receive friends Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brown Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, August 14, 2017 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Ken Walker officiating. Interment will be held in Rosedale Cemetery.
