They say, "All we need to know about life, we learn in kindergarten." I disagree. Because I learned it in Mr. Sims' 2nd grade class. No other teacher throughout all of my schooling, has had a greater impact than this one man. 30 years have passed since I've walked through the doors of his classroom at BSE. But the memories have stuck with me all of my life and will for the rest of my days. He used to shuffle around the class, dragging his feet, then *zap* the backs of our ears. He was onery and I adored him! I remember thinking this man knew everything! From growing green beans, to hatching chickens in class, making homemade marshmallow "chicks", to tapping the old sugar maple across the street to make syrup for us to have waffles in class. Had it not been for his love and generosity, I would never have gotten to see "The Greatest Show on Earth". Mr Sims surprised me with my 8th birthday cake. Another cherished memory that I will have. A half sheet cake, adorned with a big red barn, a mare with a foal, a cow with a calf, and a chicken with chicks. We shared a mutual love of farm animals. So much so that when his favorite heffer got out of his yard, and was struck on Rt9, mom and I loaded up one of our holstein calves and hand delivered it to Mr Sims' front door. He had the same look I did when he delivered that cake. Pure. Joy. Make no mistake, Mr Sims loved his kids, and we were all his kids. Every last one of us. I had contacted him a few months ago via Facebook, and to my surprised he knew exactly who I was. He had invited me, and I hoped to visit him soon, but wasnt able to due to my own health, and I knew his was not great either. If he still has the message we shared, I hope Evelyn and Retta can read it. Evelyn, Retta, and the entire Sims family... Mr. "Kenny" Sims will forever be etched into my mind as one of the greatest men to ever grace Gods earth. He will be forever loved and cherished, and I will never forget his glowing soul. I know he is up there smiling down on all of us. I have always, and will always sing his praises. And he will always be My Favorite Teacher. With all my love, Beckie.
