James Warren Smallwood, 94, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

Born February 27, 1923 in Ridgeway, WV he was the son of the late James Bushrod Smallwood and Laura Sargent Smallwood.

He was a 1942 graduate of Biglerville High School; and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force having served in Guam.

He was a member of the Pikeside United Methodist Church where he had been a Sunday School teacher for 30 years.

Jim had been a professional photographer up until 1965 when he started Smallwood Insurance Agency and later merged with Jack Small to form Smallwood and Small Insurance Agency.

He was an avid golfer, a very positive and generous person, and had a great sense of humor. Jim was a 50 year member of the Equality Lodge #44 AF & AM; and the DAV Commanders Club.

He is survived by his wife, Freda Kane Weaner Smallwood; son, Duren James Smallwood, Sr. of Williamsport, MD; one grandson, D.J. Smallwood and wife, Jennifer; great-grandson, Nicholas Smallwood; step-son, John Weaner and his three children, Rachel, Vanessa, and Kevin; stepdaughter, Susan and Donald Pelc and their three children, Bryan, Jennifer, and Katelynn and their families.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Frances Smallwood; two grandchildren, Jill and Stacy Smallwood; daughter-in-law, Frances Smallwood; two brothers, Gerald and Harold Smallwood; and sister, Jeanette Fox.

Services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Spomer officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Military graveside services will be held in Paynes Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to charity of one's choice.
