Obituary for James Scott Fritts

James Scott Fritts, 48, of Inwood passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the University of Virginia Hospital.

Born January 2, 1969 in Jefferson County, WV he is the son of Sandra Kay Whittington Dopson and Larry Fritts, Sr.

He enjoyed hunting and spending time at the cabin. He was an avid sports fan, in which he had played baseball at Jefferson High School and fast-pitch softball for the Turf Motel. Scott's kids were his life, he loved watching them play sports and enjoyed every moment with them. He was a fan and followed Washington Redskins, Washington Capitals, Baltimore Orioles, and WVU sports. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the National Park Service. He had battled melanoma cancer for eighteen years and was in remission for two years.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of twenty years, Diane Unger Fritts; one son, Jaret Fritts; two daughters, Brooke Hayslette and husband, Ryan, and Lexi Fritts; one grandchild, Kinsley Hayslette; one brother, Rick Fritts and wife, Tina; aunt, Sharon Whittington; aunt and uncle, Carol and Marty Kable; uncle and aunt, Fred and Ivalou Whittington; uncle, Jim Whittington; niece, Maci Fritts and nephew, Jordan Fritts; mother-in-law, Sarah Unger; sister-in-law Debbie McBee and her husband, Kent; and Larry's best friend, Cheryl.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Don Dopson; paternal grandparents, J. Russell and Pauline Fritts; maternal grandparents, James and Evelyn Whittington; and cousin, Todd Kable.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the South Berkeley Chapel with Pastor William Moore officiating. Interment will be in Edge Hill Cemetery.
