Nancy Elise  Needy
Nancy Elise Needy, 84, of Martinsburg, passed away on April 6, 2017.

Born on February 1, 1933 in Berkeley County, WV, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Elsie C. Chapman Needy.

She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, class of 1951, and a graduate of Shepherd University class of 1955, with a bachelors in Science and a minor in Language Arts. She started her career as an English teacher and retired as a librarian at South Middle School in Martinsburg. Nancy traveled to many parts of the United State and overseas before and after retirement. She was a member of the WISH Foundation at Shepherd University, the Scarborough Society of Shepherd University, and Phi Sigma Chi. She also was a long-time volunteer at the Interstate 81 Visitors Center near Marlowe, WV, was a season ticket holder for many years at Shenandoah University Conservatory, and was a hostess for the Berkeley County House and Garden tour.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn N. VanMeter, and LaRue Chapman Needy Stanley.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, at Mount Zion Baptist Church at the intersection of Short Road and Opequon Lane, Kearneysville, with the Rev. Robert Collins officiating. Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be held at Rosedale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Griffith, James Staley, Terry Headlee, Les Brannon, Merle Miller and Tyler Miller. The service is being held at Mount Zion Baptist Church to recognize Nancy for her efforts in helping to restore the historic church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Zion Baptist Church maintenance fund, c/o of Betty Robinson, First Baptist Church, 315 W. King St., Martinsburg, 25401.
