Obituary for Richard Ham Carter

Richard Ham Carter, 95, of Kearneysville passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Autumn Care Rehabilitation Center in Berkeley Springs.

Born December 24, 1921 in Kearneysville he was the son of the late Benjamin and Ellen Allen Carter.

He was the last of the immediate Carter family.

He was a loving, caring, and a very devoted father, husband, and friend.

He retired from the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg after 39 years.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Monroe and son-in-law, Reginald Monroe, Ruth Carter Coles and husband, Gary; two sons, David Carter and Vincent Keith Carter and wife, Denise and a very special daughter who was part of his heart, Tinsie Lockett; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandfather; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Maryellen Parker Carter; one sister, Mary Norris; three brothers, Harry Carter, Sr., Millard Carter, and Benjamin Carter, Jr.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00AM at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood. Privately, he will be placed in his final resting place in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
